C.O.I.M. S.P.A. presents 2024 Group Sustainability Report

C.O.I.M. S.P.A. presents 2024 Group Sustainability Report

C.O.I.M. S.p.a.a multinational headquartered in Offanengo (CR), Italy, which since 1962 has developed and produced chemical specialties, leaders in polyesters, polyols, polyurethanes and specialty resins for composite materials and coatings, presents its Group Sustainability Report 2024, based on 2024 data, reporting on global actions undertaken across the Group.

This report, in accordance with the international Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, is the second at Group level and is intended to showcase sustainability results achieved to date, explain actions undertaken to reduce the impact of production processes, and promote the wellbeing of local territories and communities. The key areas covered include: environmental protection, employee health and safety, human rights, quality management, community engagement, responsible energy management and sustainable supply chains.

COIM’s mission lies in adopting a shared, sustainable perspective and vision across all Group subsidiaries, in order to foster a corporate culture focused on sustainability and achieve common goals. A concrete example is the extension in 2024 of key policies already adopted by COIM S.p.A. to the other Group companies.

“In over sixty years of history, COIM’s values and principles have not changed, they have strengthened thanks to ongoing focus on clients, innovation, the local territory, and, more broadly, the creation of value for every stakeholder. The sustainability report based on 2024 data highlights Coim’s integrated approach to sustainability, which goes beyond certifications and processes to include R&D aimed at delivering renewable and recycled‑source solutions, compostable products, reducing CO₂ emissions throughout the supply chain, and promoting the physical and mental wellbeing of our employees—who make COIM’s global success possible” comments Giuseppe Librandi, CEO of Coim Group.

Responsible Resource Management and Environmental Commitment by Coim Group
The COIM Group is committed to setting goals and improving actions in energy efficiency and renewable energy, both at Group level and within individual companies. For example, starting in 2025, COIM S.p.A. will source its purchased electricity exclusively from certified renewable sources, aiming to reduce associated emissions. In 2024, COIM Italy initiated Scope 3 emissions accounting with a GHG Report for its Offanengo site, covering direct (Scope 1) and indirect emissions (Scopes 2 and 3). Based on this, Coim Group intends to extend Scope 3 emissions accounting to the entire Group in 2025, prioritizing categories with the greatest impact.

Innovation and attention to environmental impact are additional essential pillars: each product line is managed by a dedicated R&D team focused on developing new applications based on evolving market needs, ensuring product compliance, customizing existing products, and developing sustainable alternatives. In 2024, the Group invested €10 million to expand its R&D center at the Offanengo site: it will build a new high‑energy‑efficiency building to house a cutting‑edge laboratory focused on low‑emission products (prepolymers).

In terms of energy management, Coim Group is strongly focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions through various initiatives and detailed Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions accounting. COIM Italy’s Energy Management Policy, extended across all Group companies in 2024, reflects its commitment to applying the highest standards of energy efficiency across its facilities.

Materials and Certification Achievements
Materials are a core focus area, and Coim’s R&D department is dedicated to researching biosourced and sustainable alternatives to synthetic products, while maintaining quality and performance. Coim began using recycled and biosourced materials about 20 years ago and has steadily increased their use over time. COIM S.p.A. obtained the Remade in Italy® certification in 2022, verifying the use of recycled content, and adopted the broader Remade® certification in 2024. COIM Italy also renewed its OK Compost Industrial certification in 2024 for certain adhesive products and flexible packaging ink lines, resulting from significant R&D investment. Additionally, the Group pursued three certifications for the product NOVACOTE NE 810 + CE 510, the European Seedling and American BPI certifications, recognizing compostability and safe environmental disposal. The NOVACOTE adhesive line received five Recyclass approvals in 2024 and 2025. In 2024, COIM Italy earned the ZDHC Level 1 certification for sustainable chemical management for a range of polyurethanes, demonstrating its commitment to phasing out harmful substances. Finally, in 2024, COIM Italy and COIM US secured ISCC Plus certification for their polyester polyols using bio‑based and circular feedstocks.

COIM S.p.A. also maintains its Ecovadis Gold medal, achieved again in 2024, and aims to progressively extend evaluations to other subsidiaries. The goal is to assess individual legal entities and eventually move toward a consolidated Group performance rating.

Coim corporate responsibility
People have always been considered a valuable resource at COIM Group, and therefore their engagement and well‑being are integral to Group policy. In 2024, the Group hired 181 new employees, focusing on attracting young talent and promoting a diverse workforce: 60% of new hires were aged 30–50, 14% over 50, and 26% under 30. Permanent contracts represented 99% of employment in 2024  and 98% of all contracts were full‑time, in line with 2023.

Numerous initiatives have been implemented to improve people's well-being: for example, a nursery school has been built in the Offanengo site with an agreement that allows employees to use it at a discounted rate; tax assistance and legal advice services are also provided, as well as healthcare benefits for staff and their families, bonuses and pension fundsto retain talented people within the company; in some Group companies, scholarships are awarded to employees' children, while in others, awareness events on physical and mental health and prevention are also organized with professionals in the sector.

Another priority is training: the Company believes in helping its people and skills grow by fostering a constructive team spirit, beginning with a targeted onboarding process for new hires.

In 2024, COIM Italy also participated in the Climate Ambition Accelerator, a comprehensive training program on climate change organized by the United Nations Global Compact. Participants are guided through practical steps to integrate climate objectives into their business strategies, in alignment with global standards and contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
