COIM: European Coatings Show 2023

C.O.I.M. S.p.A., an Italian multinational that has manufactured chemical products since 1962 and that operates all over the world through nineteen manufacturing and trading companies, and Synres, dutch company specializing in resins since 1947 and acquired by COIM in 2022, present new sustainable coatings for the Car Refinish and Decoration sectors.

Synres has enriched its vast range of solvent-based hydroxyl acrylic resins for the Car Refinish segment with five new high-solids acrylic resins (Uracron range) and a hydroxyl functional polyester resin (Urakyd range), which can be used to formulate quick-drying coatings with a high solid content and compliant with the directive on the limitation of VOC emissions (<420 g/l) for the automotive sector. These new solutions improve the efficiency of the painting process, by ensuring a more rapid transit of the vehicle through the repairing line and reducing energy consumption. They also guarantee a constantly high quality combined with marked durability of the coating and their formulation can be tailored to meet the customer’s application specifications.

For the decoration sector, COIM and Synres present the evolution of Synres’ traditional range of alkyd resins, Urakyd: Urakyd ECO. This new range of products reduces the carbon footprint by 50% from cradle to gate, without sacrificing the characteristics and performance of the products. This result was obtained by replacing part of the fossil raw materials with Corbion Puralact B3, by guaranteeing a more efficient raw material supply chain (EMEA, preferably Europe) and by making changes to obtain a hydrolytic stability equivalent to that of the reference product.
