MAJOR ACCIDENT PREVENTION POLICY AND HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK

The main objective of COIM spa is to increase its competitivity and profitability constantly. In order to achieve this, we consider that the following objectives are equally important:

·            protecting the health and safety of workers and the general public,

·            protecting the environment.

COIM spa accordingly wishes to protect the health and safety of its own employees, the health and safety of its contractors’ employees, of customer, of visitors and of residents living near the Offanengo facility and it wishes to prevent major accidents, injuries, occupational diseases and damage to the environment.

Management at COIM spa is aware that in order to ensure safety and prevent any harm, thorough knowledge of the tasks to be performed and of the connected dangers is essential. It is therefore necessary to use properly trained staff, put in place systems meeting the highest levels of quality and safety and run them according to criteria that put safety above any other financial consideration.

COIM spa accordingly develops, releases, revises and implements a Safety Management System based on D.Lgs 105/2015 and the standards OHSAS 18001 and UNI 10617 in order to ensure that:

·         the dangers connected with the work performed are identified and assessed;

·         the risk of major accidents, which is defined as a combination of the likelihood of occurrence and the severity of the effects, is minimised as far as this is reasonably compatible with current knowledge and the state of the art;

·         the health and safety of workers is protected by preventing accidents and occupational diseases;

·         current laws and standards are complied with and track is kept of the development and evolution of such laws and standards;

·         transparent and cooperative relations are maintained with the public authorities and the general public;

·         systems are designed and run in such a way as to ensure their compatibility with health and safety and protection of the environment;

·         all the systems are kept active and efficient, including in particular the fire-prevention systems, the operation of these systems being essential to the protection of the health and safety of workers and of the general public;

·         organizational, plant and procedural modifications are scrutinised and assessed in such a manner as not to compromise safety requirements;

·         all workers, including those of contractors, are informed, educated and trained to work with full awareness of the potential risks of the activities;

·         suitable procedures are adopted to manage emergency situations in such a manner as to limit the harm arising from them;

·         the performance of the system is constantly measured and assessed and corrective measures are taken to     correct non-compliance and improve its performance.

IT IS THE DUTY OF ALL EMPLOYEES OF COIM SPA AND OF THE CONTRACTORS WORKING AT THE OFFANENGO FACILITY TO COMPLY WITH THE SPIRIT OF THIS POLICY. THE SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY, BEHAVIOUR AND ATTITUDES DISPLAYED WITH REGARD TO THE ASPECTS OF THE CORRECT DEVELOPMENT OF THE SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF EVERYONE’S JOB DESCRIPTION AND ARE THEREFORE A SIGNIFICANT ELEMENT FOR ASSESSING THE PERFORMANCE OF THE INDIVIDUAL EMPLOYEE AND OF THOSE SUPPLIED BY THIRD PARTIES.
